Ideas
I've never been one to build in public but my New Years resolution this year has been to be more open about what I'm working on. Here you'll find a list of my ideas and links to completed projects
Build Plan & Idea Page
Hopefully self-explanatory (If you see this you are on the page). Create a page where I can jot down my ideas, plans, progress with links to the complete projects.
Tax/Loan Calculators
It increasingly feels like the UK lives out of my pocket, goal is to figure out how much the Government is lifting from me in the various taxes/student loan/council tax alongside some more general calculators.
Multiplayer SQL database diagram tool
In Progress
Sync engines are all the rage, let's give what will surely be an in-and-out 30 minute adventure a go.
Student loan amortisation calculator
The UK has an odd system when it comes to Student loans. It's structured as a debt but where the interest rate is calibrated so that: 1) The more you earn the higher your repayments. 2) The interest is indexed to inflation, 3) The threshold for repayment is now concordant with minimum wage. It's pretty hard to figure this system out but I'd like to actually calculate what % are able to/have paid off their student loans, and if not when (if?).
Crime over time map
Crime has been a hot topic in the UK for a while now but visualisations of how it changes & consistent areas of crime are few and far between.
Hacker News dead links analysis
Increasingly noticeable how many dead links there are on technical topics. Think it would be a good side project to download all of hacker news and see what % of links still exist N years on.
Discover Postcode geoshapes from URPN points / Show postcode areas on a map
Since the ONS has started releasing URPN (Unique code that identifies a property/structure) alongside post codes it's now possible to run a geo-analysis and actually figure out the boundaries of postcodes.
Tax payer equivalent generator
It's pretty hard to actually put most big numbers into context, especially when it comes to estimating the cost of policy. Figure it'd be a good idea to knock something together that could put things more in context.
Something involving WebGL shaders idk could be fun
In Progress
Graphics programming is a great mystery to me but I think it would be fun to try
